DC Area OD Practitioners CoP

Description:
The DC Area OD Practitioners CoP provides a supportive and learning community for new and experienced practitioners, both internal and external.

Our mission and vision is to:
● Provide an opportunity for people to learn from the presenters and their colleagues.
● Share successes and challenges in working with clients.
● Enhance participants’ competence and confidence in their OD work.

Meeting Frequency:
First Thursday of the month, September through June.

Meeting Venue: Until further notice, all CoP events will be virtual using Zoom.  Please refer to the specific event description for exact location.  Relevant and unique Zoom link/password will be included in the registration confirmation email, as well as in reminder emails sent to all who have registered 7 days prior and the day before the event.

If/when in-person meetings resume, we'll use the same location as before detailed below.

Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, Conference Room B
4805 Edgemoor Lane
Bethesda, MD 20814
Convenient to Bethesda Metro.

Directions:  If you are getting off at the Bethesda Metro, around the corner is the entrance to the building, 4805 Edgemoor Lane.  If you need to, use Google Maps or Waze to find it. When you go in the door take the elevator to the 2nd floor and we are in Room B.  If you are driving, there is a County parking garage just below the B-CC Regional Services Center.  It is the building where the CoP is located.  Entrances are at 7601 Woodmont Ave. and around the corner from the 4805 Edgemoor Lane building entrance.  For both entrances there are signs above them that say Bethesda Center.  There has been a recent change.  There used to be two working elevators that go from the garage up to the floor where the B-CC Regional Services Center is.  Now there is only one.  When you park, take the Old Georgetown elevator and follow the directions to the B-CC Regional Services Center.

    Epic Failure – Colossal Learning

    Virtual

Ever have an Epic Fail?  The kind where you and/or your client believe everything is on target only to learn something significant was overlooked?  Do you consistently plan to review why an effort went smoothly and learn from what didn’t, but fail to set aside the time to do so? As an example, Beth Jenkins Smith co-led an enterprise-wide human capital initiative for a 400-person organization. Seventy-five percent of the rollout was amazing but the 25 percent of that project that didn’t fly cost reputations, energy, and morale. Beth introduces Dr. Nadya Zhexembayeva’s Reinvention Method and invites you to mine your Epic Fail and Colossal Learning story for ways you ensure personal and client success.

In the session you will learn how to apply a readiness assessment tool that charts both the intensity of client preparedness and levels of impact to ensure your chosen initiatives will help, not hinder, client direction. In this deep dive, you will develop key questions to ask in the discernment process. You will rise from the ashes in no time!

    Presenter: Beth Jenkins Smith

Beth is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC), Reinvention Advocate, and Integration Gladiator. She has provided management consulting, strategic planning, and leadership development support to civilian and defense agencies  Through the lens of Appreciative Inquiry, Beth helps government clients and the small to medium-sized firms that support them amplify and extend their strengths to co-create their best possible futures by leaping forward from peak experiences.
