Topic: Three Inextricable Links Between Leadership & Organizational Development

Facilitator:  Denise Hinden

Program:

Frustrated that too many nonprofit organizations that invested in strategic planning with a good outcome let the opportunities slip away during implementation, we started looking for the missing link in 2007.  What we found in our search was that successful strategic plan implementation, including organization development, depends on leaders ongoing commitment to consciously and actively developing themselves as leaders, but not just developing through traditional workshops and training.  No, we are talking about deeper professional development.  This is the kind of development that motivates leaders’ understanding of their leader identity, the mindset they show up with in their leadership, and practices they choose to carry out their leadership in a way that aligns with the unique culture of the organization they lead.  In this learning session we’ll explore what we mean by leader identity, mindset, practices and organizational culture, and how they contribute directly to building effective organizations.  Participants will complete a leadership mindset revealing activity and have a dynamic conversation about the ways in which leaders influence organizations.

Learning Outcomes Include:
• Explore the values and belief elements in a leader identity statement framework
• Explore 7 alternative mindsets leaders can choose
• Explore 5 proven leadership practice areas
• Review a definition for organizational culture
• Connect the dots from leadership to organizational development
