Putting the Poetry in Professional Development

In this new reality of Covid, so many working professionals are searching for greater meaning in their work and preparing to make changes large and small.  In our roles as OD consultants, trainers, facilitators, and coaches we may find ourselves using mottoes or adages to reach our clients through their emotions during this time of transition, rather than only engaging with them intellectually. A well-turned phrase can touch an internal chord rather than trigger a mental reaction.  I have used such phrases as “You are the totality of your experience” or “Cast the net wide” while coaching clients on skills assessment and career development. These poetic statements touch clients’ emotions and desires.  In this session I will share other adages that my clients have found helpful and create a space where participants can offer the poetic or philosophical statements that they use for greater impact.  In this collaborative space we can learn from each other and then serve our clients at a deeper level.
