Topic: What Is “Gestalt” and How Might It Advance Your OD Practice?

Description: Gestalt was born around the same time as Organization Development (maybe slightly before). It is a German word that roughly translated to English means “shape” or “placed” or “pattern” or “whole”.  Although Gestalt is typically known as a therapy practice, it has more recently been practiced and expanded within organizational contexts.  John Hovell, the presenter, is privileged to becoming accredited in Relational Organizational Gestalt through the European Association for Gestalt Therapy. He’s excited to share his most recent learnings, and engage in conversation to learn together. He will host an interactive session so you can learn a bit about Gestalt, discuss it, and dive into some real-time practice of it!  Come see what you think, feel and sense?

Takeaways:

By actively participating in these 90 minutes, we (you and we individually and collectively) have an opportunity to:

  • Expand understanding of Gestalt, especially the “Gestalt cycle of experience.”
  • Immediately apply the practical tools of “Self, Other, Situation”, and 9 “modifications to contact” to potentially deepen contact with self and others with your OD work.
  • Experience and embody Gestalt through a visual, non-verbal conversation with a partner.

Presenter:  John Hovell

John practices Gestalt, Organization Development, Conversational Leadership, Knowledge Management, Diversity & Inclusion, and Project Management. Married to Karen for over 20 years with their two lovely children, Camden and Michelle. He’s an international traveler for connection, contact, and embodied awareness. As managing director of STRATactical International, clients have expressed their challenge and joy with transformational initiatives. Especially if those initiatives can include hiking, bonsai trees, flying remote control airplanes, or eating chocolate.

CoP Leader:  Mark Sachs, ma.sachs@verizon.net, www.markasachs.com

Mark has been an OD consultant and executive coach for more than 20 years.  He enjoys seeing his clients and their organizations take steps to change, and when they are successful it gives him great pleasure.  He earned his MS in OD from the American University/NTL Institute and MA and BA degrees in Sociology from Rutgers University.  He is an International Coaching Federation, Professional Certified Coach (PCC).
