Topic: Tales from the Shutdown

Facilitator:  Valerie Graff

Valerie Graff is a thirty year public sector leader, manager and consultant who has effectively led and consulted to major organizational projects resulting in successful outcomes.   She supports clients to improve their ability to get results, including building leadership, staff and organizational teams, creating culture change, planning and implementing plans, coaching senior leaders and improving governance.  Additionally, Valerie is a highly skilled meeting and retreat facilitator and trainer.  Valerie facilitates meetings and retreats and trains on a variety of topics in leadership, governance and management.  She also serves in an Interim Executive Director capacity, helping clients experiencing leadership transitions to create an improved organization for new leadership

Program Description:

Just in time for Halloween, gather around to hear stories from the shutdown that will chill you, amaze you and ultimately will bring you closer to the community of OD professionals.

The government shutdown has presented a host of problems for the OD professional.  Our SIG represents a unique blend of internal/external OD practitioners that support the government sector. Some staff are considered "essential: and worked, leaving the rest of the federal workforce as "non-essential:" many derogatory statements by those in charge of the government doesn’t help morale, leaders and staff have not been paid, resulting in financial burdens for a number of colleagues and the work has piled up, which means many are returning to work that must be completed while the government "opens for business which means that work loads can feel excessive.

Join your colleagues in this session to tell your "Tale from the Shutdown" so that ....you can make sense of your own experience and understand the experience of your colleagues.  Supporting yourself and others to integrate the shutdown experience so you can manage the work and restore your trust is the real focus of this session.   This is a participatory session so be prepared to both share and listen.
