Evening Program | January 2016
"Fitness for Growth" Strategies to Increase Clients' Capacity for Growth
Presenter: Carylynn Larson
Program Description: As educators, trainers, and coaches, we invest considerable time in preparing our materials, identifying meaningful learning activities, and showing up at our very best. Meanwhile, our clients often enter the room distracted by completing commitments, exhausted from non-stop demands on their time, and tentative about the value of our session. This session introduces a number of ways to build clients’ fitness for growth through reflection and intention-setting activities.
Some “fitness for growth” activities are more focused on increasing capacity (e.g., learning agility) while others focus on decreasing interference. The session will address the most common barriers to learning and growth, and will create ample space for workshop participants to share the barriers to growth that experience most frequestnly and have the most difficulty addressing. The workshop will model the impact of several “fitness for growth” activities by having participants practice them in real time. This workshop is inspired by the presenter’s recent book “The Coaching Companion: Get the Most from Your Coaching Experience.”
As a result of attending in this session, participants will:
1. Gain a significantly broader set of tools for increasing clients' (and their own!) capacity to grow
2. Gain insights from the facilitator and fellow program participants on how to increase capacity for growth among particularly challenging clients/groups
3. Discover at least one new way that they can increase their own "fitness for growth"
