How Can We Define OD to Help Expand It's Ability to Impact Complex Global Challenges

When we mention that we are Organization Development (OD) practitioners, researchers, etc. frequently we get asked the question "what is OD?". People new to OD ask themselves this question all the time. We are also facing a world with increasing global, complex challenges like climate change and rising inequities many of which could benefit from OD approaches.  So how can we help ourselves and others understand what OD is and better support the global community in tackling these challenges?

In this session we will share the results of international research that documented OD Values and behavioral indicators that can help define what is OD now and into the future. This will be an interactive session aimed at sharing the identified OD Values and related behavioral indicators, exploring how they work together, and discussing various ways we can use these elements. The goal is to explore how using these OD values and behavioral indicators can allow us to better use ourselves in our practice, explain what OD is to clients and our communities, and amplify awareness and use of OD in global contexts.

Sasha Farley, MSOD

Sasha Farley is an Organization Development consultant who works to help her clients identify and cultivate inclusive organizational cultures and recognize the positive potential engaged and empowered individuals can have on the mission success of an organization. In addition, she is passionate about exploring how to use OD techniques and approaches to help support shifts in perspective at the community and societal level to help address the global challenges. In addition to her work, she is also the General Vice President for the International Organization Development Association (IODA) and the co-host of the OD podcast "Transformation Horizon". Sasha has worked with government agencies and private companies in the United States and overseas.
