Topic: Meet Your Clients Where They Are: The Gifts of Understanding Stage Theory
Have you ever felt that you aren’t connecting with your client? Or that your client is resistant, and your response is judgement or boredom? Welcome to the world of adult development! “Misses” with your clients can often mean that you are working at a different stage of development than your client. In this session Chris Wahl will lead a conversation about the stages of adult development and how adults can evolve. You’ll learn how to figure out ‘where a client is’ and how to be more effective as a coach or consultant. Also, this program may help you to understand your own development journey and provide a map of what’s next for you.

Chris Wahl is an executive coach and organization development consultant who has coached executive leaders and their teams for over two decades. Certified as a Development Coach, Chris brings a developmental perspective to her work with leaders, helping them build their capacity to succeed beyond their challenges and recognize opportunities to create a thriving professional life. Chris is the founder and creator of the Georgetown University Leadership Coaching Certificate program. She is adjunct faculty in Georgetown’s Transformational Leadership program as well as in George Mason University’s advanced coaching program.

For this session we ask that you arrive around 6:10 pm for greeting and networking (please put on a name tag), signing in, meeting new people, and finding a seat as we begin promptly at 6:30 pm. The session will end around 8:45, with networking until 9 pm.

Changes: We are changing the way we run the Coaching Community of Practice. Those who receive notice they are on the attendance list will pay $5.00 by Venmo to reserve their place. We will send instructions regarding using Venmo when you receive notice you are on the attendance list. We will not be offering refunds. We ask that cancellations be at least 48 hours in advance so we can contact those on the waiting list and give them sufficient notice to attend. If necessary, last minute cancellations are appreciated so we can do the appropriate room set-up.
In order to balance who attends we delay notifying those on the attendance list for up to a week to include those who have not attended recently. We also encourage new members to attend. We apologize if you do not get on the attendance list each month and hope you understand that we want to include more members, not only those who responded quickly. We limit our sessions to 30 attendees as we sit in a circle to encourage full participation. From now on those who are 'no-shows' or last minute cancellations will be placed on the waiting list for future meetings until we have openings. RSVP only if you want to attend, no need to send 'regrets.'
Please let us know if you are a new member or have not attended the last three or more sessions (September through November). We are very grateful for your interest and support.
We need a few volunteers to help set up the room. Please let me know if you can assist us at 6:00.
You will receive notification within the next seven days about whether you are on the list to attend or on the waiting list. Also, please include the phone number where you can be reached if we need to contact you the day of the meeting. Be sure to check your email for any updates if the weather is challenging or for any other changes that evening.
The waiting list is for those who are willing to contact Peggy on the day before the session to fill cancellations. We often are able to accommodate those on the waiting list.
