OD Book Discussion SIG: Joint CBODN/ASTD SIG

Topic:   "The Business of Happiness" by Ted Leonsis

Mr. Leonsis is the current owner of the Capitals and Wizards and former vice chairman and president of AOL. On Thursday, January 13, 2011 Booz Allen’s Kevin Keegan will conduct a live interview with Mr. Leonsis to discuss his latest book, “The Business of Happiness.” Mr. Leonsis believes that “happiness can be achieved by approaching it with the same degree of discipline and rigor that’s needed to build a successful business.” He supports his claims with examples from personal experiences in the business world and evidence from social science research. Moreover, he promotes the concept of a ’double bottom line’ that is made up of fiscal results and positive impacts on people and society.

Please arrive in the lobby 15 minutes early to receive your visitor’s badge (and don’t forget a government issued ID such as a driver’s license). Also, you may bring your copy of his book as Mr. Leonsis will be conducting a signing at the end of the session. We hope to be able to record the session for those who are unable to attend and will send that information out to you after the event.

SIG Leader:  Laura Mendelow (Mendelow_Laura@bah.com | 301-325-5123)

SIG Description:

The OD SIG is built around the idea of an executive book summary.  Each month a volunteer presenter introduces and helps us understand the key ideas from a recently-published book whose topic is relevant to Organization Development practitioners.  It is not necessary to have read the book to participate; attendees are encouraged to join in the discussion based on personal experience.

Mission:  Network with other OD professionals and stay current on the latest trends, concepts and models.

Who would benefit from attending:  Any OD professional. Our group consists of experienced and new professionals as well as internal and external consultants.

Venue:  Due to the overwhelming interest in this author, we have reserved a larger conference room and will not be meeting in our regular location. Instead, the reserved space is at Booz Allen’s One Dulles location, conference room #2208 (13200 Woodland Park Road Herndon, VA 20171 USA; click to view map)

Space is limited, so please RSVP to: Laura Mendelow at Mendelow_Laura@bah.com

Meeting Frequency & Format:  Second Thursday of each month from 8:00 - 9:30 am.

8:00 - 8:15:  Introductions & Announcements
8:15 - 9:15:  Review and discuss book of the month
9:15 - 9:30:  Network with OD professionals
