Program Description:

Having a well-designed vision statement is an important aspect of our work as organization development practitioners when we support our customers/clients in strategic planning and change management.  A vision statement, when done right, can have a powerful impact on an organization. However, a vision statement can be a confusing concept. Even the best vision statement will fail to enact change if it is not implemented at all or if it is not implemented in a way that does not align with the vision.

In this webinar, I will define the term vision statement and distinguish it from similar concepts, such as mission, strategy, and goals. I will share the seven characteristics of effective vision statements, along with examples of vision statements. We will discuss ways that organizations can implement its vision statement, including aligning a programmatic or departmental vision statement with an agency’s vision and mission statement. You will leave the presentation with a better understanding of what constitutes an effective vision statement and ideas for aligning your organization’s vision statement with your unit’s goals and activities.
