CBODN 'In The Know' Book Discussion

Topic: Leadership Presence (Kathy Lubar and Belle Linda Halpern)

Description: This session is an interactive discussion around the key principles and applications of “Leadership Presence.”

Twenty-five years ago, Belle Linda Halpern and Kathy Lubar were leading workshops for actors to help them increase their power and confidence on stage while building stronger connections with their audiences. A participant in their workshops recognized the need for these exact same skill sets for leaders within his organization and requested they tweak the workshop and deliver it internally. Thus was born The Ariel Group.

In their book, Leadership Presence, Halpern and Lubar delve into what exactly presence is and is not. They introduce their Leadership PRES Model, highlight practical tips & techniques for building one’s presence, share real-life stories from their decades of working with leaders and actors, and provide practical exercises for readers to test out their new learnings. Halpern and Lubar illustrate so clearly why Leadership Presence is the key to dynamic and authentic leadership while underscoring that Leadership Presence can in fact be developed and nurtured; you don’t have to be born with it.  Every page offers valuable insights and tools to help enhance your Leadership Presence and boost your overall effectiveness as a leader who influences and inspires others by:

* being present, vulnerable and empathetic

* connecting with others

* sharing personal stories

* being self-knowing and authentic.
